*1 "Had the boxes brought on the deck" - presumably during fine weather clothes needed airing if they were damp and mouldy.
*2 "An Albertross was caught" - The Rime of the Ancient Mariner was written by Coleridge in 1797, I wonder if they had read it? However, the albatross was shot on a northerly journey in that story, not on a southerly journey, so perhaps the wrath of spirits would not be aroused for them.
